Compare and contrast the reasons for and against research related to cultural differences in communication styles

What will be an ideal response?

This research could help us recognize potential sources of misinformation
and can enlighten us about features of communication that can distinguish one culture
from another. This research is problematic because some scholars contend that it can
divide and separate "us" from "them;' the European communication style is often
considered the standard against which all others are compared; this line of research
fails to take into consideration the great diversity that exits within co-cultures; fails to
realize that communication style is affected by context; many Americans are members
of and identify with more than one co-culture and their communication style illustrates
features associated with a number of co-cultures; and members of co-cultures don't
exhibit all of the features associated with a particular communication style all of the
time. It's crucial that we reject the idea that illustrations of communication style are
rigid descriptions of how people communicate in all situations.
