Why is R sleep referred to as paradoxical sleep?
Please provide the best answer for the statement.
REM sleep is sometimes called paradoxical because although the brain’s motor cortex is very active, neurons in the brainstem and spinal cord are unable to transmit messages to the rest of the body. This leaves the body in a state of paralysis, which is thought to prevent the body from acting out dreams that occur in REM sleep.
