Sometimes a party will register a domain name of another party's trademarked name or famous person's name. This is called cybersquatting. Often the domain name owner will have registered the domain name in order to obtain payment for the name from the trademark holder or the famous person whose name has been registered as a domain name. The Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act (ACPA) is a federal statute that permits trademark owners and famous persons to recover domain names that use their names where the domain name has been registered by another person or business in bad faith.
