Discuss current conceptual, theoretical, and methodological concerns regarding the study of

prosocial behavior.

What will be an ideal response?

First, a number of experts have discovered that assessments of prosocial reasoning do
not always correlate with prosocial behavior, although in theory, there should be a
strong connection. Part of this problem could be with the way that prosocial reasoning
is assessed, that is, children's moral reasoning is better connected to prosocial behavior
if children are asked respond to child-relevant hypothetical dilemmas. On the other
hand, the accuracy of prosocial behavior assessments has also been questioned. For
example, people are more likely to exhibit prosocial behavior in the lab than in the field.
In addition, some have questioned the external validity of laboratory-based prosocial
behavior, for example, simple sharing behavior in the lab may not translate into any
meaningful behavior in the real world. Increasingly,  researchers are studying prosocial
and antisocial behavior in context, for example, gossiping  is more of a problem if the
behavior is exhibited by a peer that is already highly disliked.

What is a key difference between Erikson's psychosocial development and Loevinger's ego development?

a) Erikson suggested people can skip around the stages, while Loevinger suggested people must complete each stage in full. b) Erikson used stages to describe a pathway, while Loevinger used visual cues. Consider This: Loevinger saw ego development as a strict route, while Erikson was more flexible. LO 8.3: Explain the early theories of personality development c) Erikson believed ego attainment was impossible, while Loevinger centered on it. Consider This: Loevinger saw ego development as a strict route, while Erikson was more flexible. LO 8.3: Explain the early theories of personality development d) Erikson was empirically supported, while Loevinger has yet to have supporting evidence.
