Using your best interpersonal skills, how would you respond to a patient who says she does not want her blood drawn because all phlebotomists hurt her?

Sympathize with the patient that the venipuncture can hurt slightly. Don't tell the patient that it will not hurt. Tell the patient that you will do the best you can to not hurt him or her very much. Remind the patient that the physician needs this sample to help make the patient better.
