What are the signs and symptoms associated with frostbite?

The skin is usually pale, cold, and has a hard consistency in cases of frostbite. There is a lack of sensation associated with the skin changes. When skin has thawed it usually becomes red and painful. With more severe frostbite, the skin may remain pale and numb. Severe frostbite may cause blisters, gangrene, and damage to superficial and deep structures under the skin.
