Early use of amphetamines in several sports led to some deaths due to heat stroke. The first Olympic rules and the first few random tests took place in 1968 . Steroids began to be tested for in the 1970s when a test was developed, but still a small percentage of the athletes were tested. More athletes are tested each time, and more substances keep getting added to the banned list. All athletes now must be very careful to avoid a positive test.
