The event involved many things the public found intriguing; a very young child that
had fallen from a distance but survived, a popular zoo animal seeming to threaten the
safety of the child, the parental behavior regarding the safety of the child, and a
controversial decision to kill the gorilla as a safety measure. There was the response of
the zoo personnel as well. And ultimately, the video that captured a good amount of the
event gave the story a highly visual component that was ideal for the many visual media
platforms found in today’s media landscape.
