Significant problem solving occurs when a consumer is prepared to commit considerable effort to make a purchase decision; this may occur when a consumer encounters a new product or when the product is expensive and will create significant implications if the wrong choice is made. Routine response problem solving occurs when a consumer has a well-developed process for fulfilling a need or want; this occurs when a consumer is familiar with and enjoys a product that he or she buys again and again.
