Briefly explain what happens when you undergo dark adaptation by explaining why, when you enter a dark room after being in a very bright light, you cannot see anything for approximately 10 minutes and are unable to see things clearly for 30 minutes
What will be an ideal response?
Dark adaptation, or the process by which the eyes become more sensitive to light in low illumination, occurs when the rods and cones adapt to declining levels of light. The cones adapt faster, reaching their threshold limit about 10 minutes after entering the dark. The rods continue to adapt, reaching their limit at a much lower absolute threshold in about 20 minutes.
