Journalists can legally use copyrighted material without the permission of the copyright holder for educational and informational processes under an area of the law called fair use. Media practitioners can also use some items licensed through a creative commons process without the approval of the owner. In addition, if you want to use a chunk of text, a photo, a graphic, a clip of video or anything else, you can identify the owner of the material and ask for permission to use it.
