Discuss how Sternberg's contextual subtheory might be used to explain an individual's responses to a new job

What will be an ideal response?

) Students should be able to articulate that the contextual subtheory involves the mental activities of adapting,
selecting, and shaping real-life situations. They should also discuss the idea that when individuals are initially
placed in a new situation (e.g., a new job), their first response will usually be to try to adapt to it. That is, they will
try to create a "good fit" without changing either the situation or themselves in any drastic manner. If, over time,
the individuals realize that the new job does not "fit" well, then they may either select a different environment (e.g.,
quit and get another job) or try to shape the current environment (i.e., change one or more aspects of the job to
make it more satisfying).
