What was the Triffin Paradox?

What will be an ideal response?

International trade needed only the U.S. dollar as a source of liquidity for expansion. This expansion depended on foreigners' willingness to continually increase their holdings of dollars as long as they trusted the integrity of the U.S. currency. However, as foreign dollar holdings increased, people began to question the ability of the United States to be able to redeem those dollars for gold. This was referred to as the Triffin paradox.
