Describe the situations in which standard, contact, droplet, and airborne precautions apply

What will be an ideal response?

ANSWER:
Standard precautions apply for all patients in all settings, regardless of whether they are known to have an infection. Contact precautions are additional precautions taken to prevent the spread of pathogens transmitted via contact, such as instances when patients have skin infections (including Staphylococcus, head lice), diarrhea, draining sites or wounds, or incontinence. Droplet precautions apply for most respiratory infections such as influenza and pertussis. Airborne precautions are taken when the patient is known or suspected to be infected with pathogens that spread long distances via particulates, such as measles, tuberculosis, or varicella virus (chickenpox and shingles).
