Do you agree that there was a failure of leadership when it came to the government's response to Hurricane Katrina? Why or why not?
What will be an ideal response?
The victims of Katrina needed to hear how the government was responding to
their immediate needs. They also needed words of encouragement and hope.
That's what leaders do. Unfortunately, during the first days after the storm, this
kind of leadership was in short supply. And when the victims heard these words,
they seemed shallow. That's because during crises – as it is in more normal times
– actions speak louder than words.
