There was a strong connection between folk music performers and preservationists. Song writers such as Alan Lomax and Pete Seeger came from families that were highly interested in preserving traditional folk musics. Joan Baez was another performer who seriously studied folk music and then enriched her audiences with her informed performances. While some of these musicians actually gathered recordings of genuine ethnic music, others studied the music and re-recorded it themselves, thus also bringing the music to a whole new audience.
