• Remind yourself that your culture is not the only correct one. Expect that your communication techniques will not be universally practiced, understood, or valued by those from a different culture. Humility is an important virtue here.
• Seek out someone from the same culture as the person or group with whom you are having the conflict and explore how that culture generally approaches conflicts.
• Learn communications characteristics from someone from a similar culture. Explore the specific nuances within the three channels of communication.
• Read books or other material pertaining to cross-cultural communication. See the section, To Learn More, at the end of this chapter for suggested books to read.
• Learn a new language
• Immerse yourself in another culture for an extended period of time.
