Describe the importance of relating information in a presentation to the interest of your
audience. Give examples of three strategies you can use to relate to your listener?s interests.
What will be an ideal response?
It is important to relate to your listener?s interest because you want your audience to
listen and be interested in the information you are offering. If they are interested and
are listening, it is more likely they will also remember your information.
Strategies include:
(1 ) Use activity and movement. Listeners are more likely to listen to someone who tells
an action packed story that is lively and full of movement. (2 ) Discuss issues and events
close to an audience. In other words, relate to what is going on in your listeners lives.
Also, use specific audience members names. (3 ) Create conflict in your presentation.
People are more interested in hearing about opposing forces such as pitting good
against evil. (4 ) Think about why you are interested and establish common bonds with
the audience.
