Some adolescents have parents who are religious and participate in religious activities. African Americans are more religious than Whites, and being religious seems to buffer them from a number of negative outcomes. For example, those who are religious are less likely to use drugs and alcohol and less likely to be depressed. They are also more likely to do volunteer work.
