Define child abuse and psychological maltreatment, and identify the factors that contribute to each

What will be an ideal response?

A good answer would include the following key points:
1 . Child abuse is the physical and psychological maltreatment or neglect of children. Physical abuse includes physical hitting or punishment.
2 . Psychological maltreatment is a term used to describe more subtle forms of abuse and may include overt behaviors (e.g., belittling, intimidation) and/or neglect.
3 . The factors that contribute to child abuse include stressful environments, poverty, single parenthood, and history of violence between spouses. In addition, sometimes the line between “spanking” and “beating” is not clear, and spankings can escalate to abuse.
4 . Also, parents may have unrealistic expectations for the child in terms of developmentally appropriate behaviors.
5 . The cycle-of-violence hypothesis suggests that those abused will abuse their own children; research shows only about 33 percent of those abused will abuse their own children.
