List the three required elements of an effective conclusion

What will be an ideal response?

Effective conclusions should summarize the key ideas of the speech, activate audience
response, and provide closure. You should provide a summary statement that reminds the
audience of the key ideas of the speech. Additionally, the summary should demonstrate how
the main points of the speech support the overall goal of the speech. Second, a speaker should
activate audience response – what do you want the listeners to do with the information you
provided or arguments you have proved? Here you can challenge, remind, and/or invigorate
listeners to perceive your content in a certain way or to act on it in the way you have
prescribed. Finally, you need to provide closure with an effective final statement that ties the
main points of the speech together and gives a sense of finality to the speech. This can be done
by slowing down your speech rate, maintaining eye contact with your listeners, and pausing
briefly before and after your final sentence.
