Performing a needs assessment involves many steps and is typically done with the intent of creating some sort of health intervention. The process of monitoring is considered a critical underlying step in the process of needs assessment—why?

Monitoring as a process involves active engagement during a needs assessment. One must be attuned to the implementation aspect as well as the feedback from the various stakeholders following implementation. Thus, monitoring heavily influences the evaluation process and subsequently helps define the effectiveness of the intervention. It also provides data that can be used to refine and modify interventions to improve achievement of health goals.
