Discuss the methods of physician reimbursement in the United States.

What will be an ideal response?

Payments to physicians traditionally call upon one of three different reimbursement mechanisms: fee-for-service (FFS), prepayment, and salary. In FFS, the unit of remuneration is based on the service or procedure provided and automatically adjusts for case complexity. In prepayment or capitation, the person served rather than the medical service is the unit of remuneration. The capitation payment takes care of reimbursement for a stipulated period of time, usually per month. Salary is payment to the physician for time consumption, irrespective of the units of service or the number of patients.
