Supporters and opponents campaign to convince voters to reject or accept the measure, which is now referred to as a Proposition, such as "Prop #." If the measure is controversial, the measure may generate considerable interest and millions of dollars may be spent to promote or defeat it. (The most expensive campaigns exceed $100 million in total spending.)
