There are a variety of answers to this, but the following are common issues:
RFI: Wireless devices are subject to radio frequency interference (RFI) from outside devices or devices that use the same channel.
Signal strength:the signal strength may be enough to allow a connection between devices, but it may be inconsistent or insufficient to maintain a connection because it is at the limit of the broadcasting range of one of the devices.
Parameter misconfiguration: A variety of parameters must match for a successful connection between a wireless device and an AP;a difference in any of these can result in miscommunication between the devices.
Latency: Overly populated wireless domains can experience tremendous latency because they share a collision domain.
Multiple paths of propagation: Good conductors can bounce wireless signals, causing data to arrive out of sequence or become corrupt.
Incorrect AP placement: APs may overlap using the same channels or they may be insufficiently placed, creating lapses of coverage.
