Describe the procedure for coding suspected diagnoses
What will be an ideal response?
When a definitive diagnosis is not yet available, the medical office manager may assign a sign or symptom diagnosis code. This may be done when the physician suspects a certain diagnosis, but the verification will come when the final laboratory or x-ray results are in. Signs, symptoms, and ill-defined conditions are found in the ICD-9-CM manual under codes 780.56 to 781.
