Compare what happens to the brain during adolescence with brain development earlier in life
What will be an ideal response?
ANSWER:
During adolescence, there is a surge in the production of gray matter, unmyelinated tissue. This increase in cortical development tends to occur in the prefrontal area. Depending upon usage, neural connections are kept or lost. This pruning or keeping of brain connections is similar to the cortical spurt in brain development which occurred at a much earlier age throughout the youthful cortex.
