Describe the three patterns of organizational communication. Provide examples of each
What will be an ideal response?
Organizational communication patterns operate downward, upward, and horizontally. Downward communication occurs when messages are sent from a high position in the organization to those lower in the hierarchy. An example is a manager giving an employee her performance evaluation. In upward communication, a message is sent from a position lower in the organization to a receiver higher in the hierarchy. Employee grievances are an example of upward communication. When a sender and a receiver are at similar levels in the organization, they are using horizontal communication. Self-managed work team meetings are an example of horizontal communication.
