Identify and describe two important architectural features of a Gothic cathedral, using examples from specific cathedrals

Please provide the best answer for the statement.

1. Key among the innovations defining Gothic cathedrals is rib vaulting, which was known to Romanesque architects but used by Gothic architects with increasing sophistication. Rib vaulting allowed for the massive stonework of the Romanesque style to be replaced, inside and out, by an almost lacy play of thin columns and patterns of ribs and windows, all pointing upward and carrying the viewer’s gaze toward the heavens. Extremely high naves—Chartres’s nave is 120 feet high, Reims’s nave is 125, and the highest of all, Beauvais’s, is 157, the equivalent of a 15-story building—add to this emphasis on verticality.
The preponderance of pointed rather than rounded arches contributes to this feeling as well. The pointed arch, in fact, possesses structural properties that contribute significantly to the Gothic style—the flatter or rounder an arch is, the greater outward thrust or pressure it puts on the supporting walls. By reducing outward thrust, the pointed arch allows for larger windows and lighter buttresses, pillars traditionally built against exterior walls to brace them and strengthen the vault.
2. Flying buttresses allow for even lighter buttressing and more windows. They extend away from the wall, employing an arch to focus the strength of the buttress’s support at the top of the wall, and push in against the walls with the same force with which the vaults push out. The flying buttresses help spread the weight of the vaults over more supporting stone, allowing the walls to be thinner while still supporting as much weight as earlier, thicker walls. As the magnificent flying buttresses at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris demonstrate, they also create a stunning visual spectacle.
