The VMM server functions as the controller of the virtual management environment. Access to the VMM servers is through the VMM administrator console.  Microsoft SQL Server provides the database to store various configurations. The library server manages the virtual hard disks, which are typically stored on a storage area network (SAN) for access by the host computers and virtual machines. Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) supports a VMM self-service portal that provides Web access to the VMM environment; from the Internet Explorer Web browser, users can create and manage their virtual machines in a controlled environment. The VMM self-service portal provides access to the virtual machines supporting the private cloud. Of course, the virtual machine hosts provide virtualization to run the guest operating systems.
