Explicit rules are stated or written; implicit rules are not spelled out. An example of an
implicit rule is that each person in a conversation speaks in turn and does not talk over the
conversational partner. An example of an explicit rule is that there is no loud talking in the
college library, so conversational partners know to keep their volume low when discussing the
research they are seeking
