Summarize the theories of neo-Freudian such as Alfred Adler, Carl Jung, and Karen Horney. What are the main features of each of their theoretical positions?

What will be an ideal response?

Neo-Freudians broke with traditional Freudian psycho dynamic theory by emphasizing factors other than psycho sexual development and the tensions between the id, ego, and superego. Carl Jung, for example, stressed the importance of the collective unconscious, a shared pool of memories and images (called archetypes) common to all humans. Alfred Adler focused on what he called individual psychology, emphasizing people’s striving for perfection and feelings of superiority to combat feelings of inferiority rooted in childhood. Karen Horney incorporated cultural and gender differences in her analysis of anxiety and neurotic-ism as central features of personality development.
