When humans communicate, they interpret information from others as symbols. Define what

symbols are and provide an example.

What will be an ideal response?

A symbol is a word, sound, or visual image that represents something else, such as a
thought, concept, or object; it can have various meanings and interpretations. An example is the
word desk. While the word may be standard in a certain language, the interpretation is roughly a
place at which to sit and a surface on which to do work. The symbol for the physical object could
have been any symbol, but a certain culture or group of cultures has decided that the word desk
represents the basic idea/object.
