Give an account of the concept of newsworthiness
What will be an ideal response?
The concept of newsworthiness extends the intrinsic audience interest and perceived societal significance dimensions. An issue is more newsworthy if it has a degree of immediacy or urgency. The massive television coverage of a natural disaster such as the earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear power plant meltdown results in part because it is a breaking story. An issue is more newsworthy if it has a human interest dimension with which the audience can identify, as in stories about victims of injustice, accidents, or natural disasters. A story is also more interesting if it is told by someone involved in the issue rather than by a correspondent. An issue often is more newsworthy if it involves a celebrity. A story is more newsworthy if it involves confrontation or controversy.
