When people try to explain the behavior of others, they attribute causality to either the person’s disposition or to the situation the person is in. Because behavior always takes place within a context, both dis positional and situational forces contribute to producing a given behavior. The fundamental attribution error occurs when perceives overestimate the dis positional causes of behavior, which means they fail to adequately take into account the effects of the situation. In short, we conclude that someone behaves the way they do because they’re “that kind of person.”
