Describe a therapeutic sequence for the neck. Include soft tissue manipulation as well as joint movements
What will be an ideal response?
Answer: A therapeutic sequence for the neck might start with application of lubricant across the shoulders and up the posterior cervical muscles. (Avoid massage of the anterior triangle of the neck.) Use effleurage with fingertips, palms, or loose fist to warm the shoulder and cervical muscles. Deepen pressure as tissues relax and soften. Follow with circular friction along the posterior cervical muscles. Apply direct pressure with thumb or fingertips to the trapezius muscle and deeper cervical muscles. Reconnect the area with some deep effleurage. Apply some gentle stretches to the neck (e.g., flexion, horizontal flexion, rotation). Finish with effleurage to reconnect the area, and then end with holding the head gently in neutral position (face up).
