How quickly are OSPF messages sent after the cable is disconnected?
What will be an ideal response?
Within couple of seconds. One or two flooding OSPF message (router-LS, network-LS) are sent out from Router4 to all OSPF router through its entire interface. This flooding message arrives in each neighbor router and each router makes a decision and repackages the LSA within a new link state update packet, and sends it out all interfaces except the out that received the LSA in the first place. This procedure then iterated until all routers have the updated LSA. In order to achieve reliability, a router will periodically retransmit an LSA sent to a neighbor until the neighbor acknowledges receipt of the LSA by sending a Link State Acknowledgement packet listing the updated LSA’s link-stat header.
