You want to carefully choose words, phrases, and sentences that accurately and
effectively communicate your message in a memorable and distinctive style. The most
effective words are specific and concrete (words that refer to an object or action in the
most specific way possible), unbiased (words that do not offend any group and create
goodwill, or avoid offending your audience), and vivid (words that add color and
interest to your speech). Words should also be simple and understandable and
certainly, correct words should be used to demonstrate a speaker?s preparation and
credibility.
