However, WEP, like a traditional wired network, does not protect users from each other; it only protects the network from unauthorized users. In the early 2000s, cryptologists found several fundamental flaws in WEP, resulting in vulnerabilities that can be exploited to gain access. These vulnerabilities ultimately led to the replacement of WEP as the industry standard with WPA.
