When we use the concept of thin slicing, we sample a little bit of someone's behavior
and then generalize as to what the person may be like based on the brief information we have
observed. For example, in his history class, Jacobi finds Professor Lincoln to be friendly and
easy to understand in his lectures, and the professor stands closer to students than many
professors in a lecture hall. Jacobi determines, through thin slicing, that Professor Lincoln is an
excellent professor and is knowledgeable about the course material.
