There are a number of Horizon Connection Server types available. The first connection server installed is referred to as a Horizon standard connection server (or just the connection server). As the number of virtual desktops increases, additional connection servers may be needed to provide the necessary performance. Up to six additional replica connection servers can be installed in a single Horizon VDI environment. In addition to the Standard and Replica connection server types, VMware Horizon also supports a Security server type that is used to create secure connections between remote clients and the internal connection server.
