Answer: Topics and responses will vary. Developing the topic includes three questions: 1. who is the audience? 2. What are my interests, talents, and experiences? 3. What is the occasion? Give yourself plenty of time. Determine the general purpose of the speech (to inform, to persuade, or to entertain), as well as the specific purpose (a concise statement indicating what you want your listeners to be able to do when you finish your speech. Develop the central idea/thesis statement. Generate main ideas and divide them. Gather supporting material. Outline the speech.
