How do culture and gender affect the way people use and interpret language?
What will be an ideal response?
Regarding culture, consider low- vs. high-context and degrees of formality. Regarding
gender, women tend to be more high-context, more concerned with harmony over task, likelier to
use more words to express an idea, less power-oriented, and more apt to use expressions that
soften straightforwardness. Men talk more, talk longer, interrupt more, and use conversation for
competitive purposes.
