There are four types of transitions listed: connectives, previews, reviews, and signposts. Connective transitions connect the major parts of the speech. Preview transitions help the audience get an idea of where the speaker is going, i.e. “In conclusion…” Review transitions also serve as internal summaries, summing up the contents of the speech so far. Signpost transitions are individual words that tell listeners where the speaker is in their speech, using terms as “first, next, therefore,” etc.
