Analyze the art of Duccio, Martini, Cimabue, and Giotto by focusing on the growth of naturalism in their figures and the move away from Byzantine images
What will be an ideal response?
Duccio and Martini, in Siena, produced altarpieces that showed Byzantine influences but also demonstrated more naturalism than had been seen previously. Martini's naturalism was even greater than Duccio's and shows more dramatically the blending of the sacred and the secular in Tuscan culture. In Florence the altarpieces created by both Cimabue and Giotto likewise showed increased prominence of individual personalities in the figures in particular a wide range of emotion and character.
