Explain the difference between distributive and integrative agreements. Be sure to specify
the five traditional approaches to conflict management and whether or not they are
distributive or integrative.
What will be an ideal response?
Conflicts can be classified in terms of winners and losers. Distributive agreements are
solutions that unevenly distribute benefits, and can be classified as winlose or losewin.
Avoidance, accommodation, and competition are all distributive approaches to conflict.
Integrative agreements are solutions that assume a beneficial solution for all involved parties
and can thus be classified as winwin. Collaboration and compromise are examples of
integrative approaches to conflict.
