Discuss both the benefits and the limitations ofteens being part of crowds in high school

Crowds become more differentiated with moredistinct groups as teens get older. Crowds
can help a teen to form their identity and to see it reflected in members of the group that person
associates with. It helps the adolescent to identify friends or foes. Crowds can also be limiting in that
they can too narrowly define an adolescent's identity and may be restrictive and only include like-
minded members, denying the teen access and involvement with a diverse group of friends. Also for
the teen who feels they do not fit in any group this can be an isolating time in development.
