Why do war artists (writers, poets, film directors, etc.) insert nature into their works?

In a class, I need to answer this question. I already have a few ideas but nothing really substantial to make into an essay. Any help and ideas are very appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Nature is inter-related with philosophy and aesthetics in art. (Humans are part of the nature.)

War era artists might wanted reduce the inevitable industrial look of their environment and time by portraying nature.

Nature's power and unpredictability, evoking the feelings of the sublime.
