* 1) If the level of distress is intense enough that you want to do something about it now, 2) if you are able to handle your problems on your own or you need additional support, and 3) if your distress affects your personal life, family, or work.
* Most clients do not anticipate the lengthy treatment and long-term therapy offers little support to those in the middle of a crisis.
* Short-term interventions have therefore been developed and have been found to be effective with a number of disorders.
