Explain social comparison and provide an example
What will be an ideal response?
People derive their sense of self-worth from comparing themselves to others, a process
called social comparison. Social comparison helps people measure how well they think they are
doing compared to others. Bobbie may compare the grades she earned in math with those of her
best friend Betsy, thus comparing her math ability with that of Betsy.
